While Cape Town is gearing itself for the Final Draw of the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup, which is scheduled for December 4 2009 and promises to be a hell of a party, locals and tourists have to keep in mind that various roads in the city center will be closed from November 30 to December 7. The road closures are necessary to give event organisers and various City and Provincial services the opportunity to prepare and secure the various participating venues.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these street closures and wish to thank all Capetonians in advance for their co-operation,” says Chief Inspector Merle Lourens of Cape Town Traffic Services. “To minimise traffic disruptions, Cape Town Traffic services will be on duty to redirect motorists and pedestrians. There will also be sufficient signage advising of alternative routes.
“We urge all businesses to arrange for stock to be delivered before December 4 in order to prevent traffic congestion on the day of the Final Draw,” she says.
