Bafana Bafana squad: 1 step closer

With five months to go before the kick-off of the 20910 FIFA World Cup, Carlos Alberto Parreira – the coach of South Africa soccer team Bafana Bafana, has finally announced his team of 29.
During the unveiling of the squad, which will have to undergo two more selection rounds, Parreira raised the issue that many of Bafana’s overseas contingent spend most of their time warming their club benches. “That players are not playing has worried us a lot. Again this weekend, only two out of our 20 overseas-based players started for their clubs,” he was quoted by The Star newspaper.
Bafana Bafana will camp in Durban from January 15-2, and they are scheduled to play a training match against Swaziland at Chatsworth Stadium on January 23 and an official friendly against Zimbabwe at the Moses Mabidha Stadium five days later.
Some of the most prominent soccer players of the Bafana Bafana suqad are Teko Modise and Siphiwe Tshabalala, as well as Andile Jali and Thulani Serero. “We have an opportunity to watch our local players, to give them experience and build a team,” said Parreira.
