Special ticket sale for S.Africans

South Africans who want to buy tickets for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, as well as football fans from other African nations that qualified to compete for the Golden FIFA World Cup Trophy, might be able to buy their tickets over the counter instead of having to apply for them. Well, this plan  is being discussed by the 2010 FIFA World Cup local organising committee (LOC).

“In April we are considering changing the way tickets are sold in South Africa,” 2010 LOC CEO Danny Jordaan told the media last week. “This will be discussed in a meeting that will be held in Zürich,” Jordaan told media at Durban’s Moses Mabhida stadium.”

At this stage, 50 percent of three million available tickets for the 2010 world cup have been sold or applied for. South Africa is however worried about the fact that most of these tickets are for matches between the world’s top teams, such as Brazil, Germany, England, Spain and Italy.

Ticket sales for for instance Bafana Bafana are very slow. The aim of the new ticket sale system is to boost sales of tickets for less popular matches. Jordaan however said that he was confident South Africa would have full stadiums and all the tickets would be sold. “There has been improvement in the tickets sales for Bafana Bafana, after we announced that we were worried. About 26,000 tickets were sold for the opening game between Bafana Bafana and Portugal,” he said.

In addition, Jordaan said the LOC is also considering lowering the prices of tickets only for Bafana games.

It is said that the 2010 world cup South Africa will be the cheapest World Cup in terms of ticket prices, especially for South Africans.  The exchange rate has been fixed at R7 for a US dollar and people living in South Africa will pay from R140 (±$20) for a ticket.
