Although many of the 32 qualifying teams have already chosen their base camps for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, many still need to make up its mind. And time is running out, as the teams have  until 31 January 2010 to confirm where their will base themselves during the event.

It seems that the City of Tshwane (Pretoria) is very popular among competing football teams. The municipality has said that it has already approved a total of seven base camp facilities. One such facility is the High Performance Centre in Hatfield, attached to the University of Pretoria. This location has been inspected by Argentina as their potential base camp. Italy has also expressed interest in basing themselves in Tshwane / Pretoria, which they also did during the 2009 Confederations Cup.

Other national teams interested in making Tshwane their base camp include USA, who also played in Tshwane last year during the FIFA Confederations Cup.  “It is the prerogative of each team to announce their final choice of base camp. But we are ready and waiting to host all other teams,” said Godfrey Nkwane, Chief Executive Officer of the City of Tshwane 2010 unit.
