Ticket sales World Cup simplified

To boost local sales of tickets for the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup in South Africa, the Local Organising Committee has made some changes to the way how tickets for the sports event are usually sold. Normally, you have to apply for tickets. A draw will determine who gets what. This system does not seem to work in South Africa, where people are used to buy tickets for cash over the counter.

In addition, with over 50 percent of the South African population living under 1.25 dollar a day, many do not have internet access or credit cars.

And so, from April 2010, tickets for the 2010 world cup soccer will be made available to buy over the counter, via the internet, or through the various banks.

“We are definitely in the process of changing this and as a member of the ticketing committee, I am confident that FIFA will understand our position,” said chief organiser Danny Jordaan, who previously revealed that more South Africans have bought tickets to see England play than to support their own national team Bafana Bafana.

The situation is a contrast to the previous World Cup in Germany in 2006 where there was an average of six applications for each available ticket.
