Mthatha Algeria’s base camp?

The Eastern Cape province of South Africa is holding thumbs and toes after a visit by the Algerian football team, which is still hunting for a 2010 world cup base camp. According to local media reports, the Dessert Foxes visited East London and Mthatha (Umtata) – the provincial capital.

Earlier this year, the hopes of the Eastern Cape – the home of Nelson Mandela and other prominent South Africans – were dashed after Cameroon decided to set up camp in KwaZulu-Natal instead of East London.

Officials at both King Sabata Dalindyebo municipality and Mthatha confirmed they hosted an Algerian delegation over the past weekend. The delegation also accessed facilities in East London.
