Guus Hiddink coach Ivory Coast!

It seems that the Dutch coach Guus Hiddink, who previously  coached South Korea and Australia, has agreed terms with the Ivorian Football Association to coach the country’s soccer team – Les Elephants – during the World Cup. This is what the Dutch media reported today. It is said that Hiddink has signed a two-month contract with Ivory Coast. His contract starts on may 15 and ends on July 15 2010.

There is however one obstacle. The deal with Cote d’Ivoire will be anulled if Hiddink fails to prove within the next 10 days that his contract with the Russian FA has been terminated. The contract between the former Chelsea gaffer and Russia was due to expire on June 30, 2010, but both sides have been negotiating about an early termination in the past couple of days.

Ivory Coast are in need of a new football coach after coach Vahid Halilhodzic resigned earlier this month. Other candidateswere Philippe Troussier and Sven Goran Eriksson, but Hiddink has apparently always been their primary option.

Hiddink previously coached Holland (1998), South Korea (2002) and Australia (2006) at World Cup finals tournaments.

After the world cup Hiddink will as the coach for the Turkish football team.

It take time for manager to get to know his palyers and get them playing how they wish. This will never work although it will be interesting to see.

Two months seems to be a very short space of time for any coach, even Guus, to get to know the strengths and weaknesses of his players. Especially with a start date of 19th May, this will leave only about 3 weeks until the first match for the Cote D’Ivore team.
