Public shuttle link Cape Town – Airport

One of the permanent changes brought by 2010 world cup to Cape Town is a public transport link between the city center and the airport. Previously, people traveling back and from the airport depended on expensive meter taxis, private shuttle services, and car rental.

That will be something of the past as per May 29, 2010.

The bus shuttle service between Cape Town’s city center and Cape Town International Airport will operate between the Transport Plaza in front of the new Central Terminal Building at the airport and Cape Town’s new Civic Centre Bus Station on Hertzog Boulevard, situated right in the city center. Tickets for the public airport shuttle service can be bought at both the Transport plaza and the bus station.

The buses will depart as often as every six minutes during peak periods, and not more than every 30 minutes during off-peak periods, the city of Cape Town said, and the price of one ticket (one way) is R50.00 ($5.50).

Apart from the fact that this brand new bus transport service between Cape Town and the airport will operate during and before 2010 world cup matches, the service will continue after the world cup’s final.

The visitors will experience a wonderful time in Cape Town during FIFA 2010 world cup. Improved public transport should provide easy mobility for wanting to explore the city.

This shuttle service from and to Cape Town Airport must be advertised, please. We, the public do not know about it…..It is October 2010, after the World Cup and we would ALL love to utilize this service…encourage it, like in European cities and the rest of the world……We need to have First Worls Facilities and Services. Thank you.

      Hi there,
There are shuttles going from the airport to town every twenty minutes or so. Price of a one way ticket is R50, one-way. I was told that, as per the end of this month, the MyCiti busses in town will be up and running as well, but not sure about that. You can take a Golden Arrow bus from the revamped bus station to the Waterfront. Alternatively, call a Rikki Taxi and ask them to pick you up from the Airport shuttle bus stop on Herzog Boulevard. I will try to find out about the MyCity buses and keep you posted.
      Miriam
